When Aston Martin announced it would soon be unveiling a new official watch partner, the horological industry went into a frenzy. The new partner would have to carry some serious prestige, technical swagger and design credentials in order to live up to the Aston Martin name.
Enter Girard-Perregaux. A grandee in the rarefied world of fine Swiss horology, Girard-Perregaux has been crafting exquisite timepieces for more than two centuries, making it one of the oldest names still in operation in Switzerland today.
The roots of the maison itself were forged in 1854, when the marriage of Constant Girard and Marie Perregaux sealed the union of two of La Chaux-de-Fonds' most venerable watchmaking families. An atelier was soon established and the rest, as they say, is history, with Girard-Perregaux evolving to become synonymous with both horological innovation and wearable works of art — as its catchline says, “shaping the now for those in the know”.
The collaboration with Aston Martin makes perfect sense. The brands share an absolute commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and beautiful design, and each wears its heritage proudly while creating products that are very much in line with a modern sensibility.
What’s more, 2021 marks a big year for both names — 230 years in business for Girard-Perregaux and a triumphant return to Formula One™ as a works team for Aston Martin.
The partnership will officially launch at the start of this year’s Formula One™ season, with Girard-Perregaux branding featured on the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team cars debuting on track in Bahrain.
Later this year, there will be the release of the inaugural collaborative timepiece — details are shrouded in secrecy, but the watch is expected to feature artisanal components, precision engineering and design elements inspired by each brand’s respective aesthetic.
